#5- So long, Starbucks...

I love coffee. Maybe it's because I am from the wonderful west coast, and the capital of many major coffee corporations is less than two hours from my house. (Starbucks, Tullys, Seattle's Best... just to name a few.) Maybe it's because my dad is a coffee addict who drinks practically two entire pots of coffee per day by himself. Or maybe it's simply because I am a college student who has to stay awake somehow. However, moving from my lovely home state of Washington to Tennessee, I noticed two things that drastically reduced my coffee-drinking. One, the closest Starbucks is about fifteen minutes away. Two, the coffee costs almost a dollar more. Now, I am not an addict like my dad. I drink no more than one cup of coffee every few days. But still... So for one of my 36 things, I decided to kick my caffeine habit for a month. Not just coffee- all forms of caffeine, soda included. Living on the Southern campus, this isn't too difficult, since caffeine is nearly a bad word among the conservative Adventist groups. However, I have a Friday ritual in lovely Collegedale, where every week I have my Subway/Starbucks Friday. Nonetheless, on March 28, I decided to kick my caffeine-intake for a month, til the day I left Southern.
Honestly, this sounded a lot more difficult than it really was. For one, my mom oh-so-kindly reminded me that I could still go to Starbucks- they do have such a thing as decaf coffee. And while Diet Caffeine-Free Pepsi with a squirt of lemon definitely isn't the same as Dr. Pepper with a squirt of lemon at Panera, it's not too terrible either. Still, when April 28 came around, I was more than happy to be able to once again partake of my Starbucks fetish- although, it was also nice to have my dad pay for it... :)
